FEBRUARY 2012

North Pier in the village of Newlyn in Penzance, Cornwall has become HeartSafe® - for Sat Nav users the post code is TR18 5JB.  Thanks to the generosity of the Ronnie Richards Memorial Charity (RRMC) and AED Locator (E.U.) Ltd, a life-saving defibrillator together with a secure weatherproof HeartSafe® green cabinet has been donated and installed outside the main entrance of the Royal National Mission to Deep Sea Fishermen in Newlyn.  The cabinet serves the very busy harbour (see picture below) as well as local shops and the residential area.  This is the first HeartSafe® cabinet to become operational in Cornwall!

Pictured below (from left to right) is Liz Williams (RRMC Vice Chair), Paul Williams (RRMC Secretary) and Al Williams (RRMC Treasurer) following the installation of the HeartSafe® cabinet and defibrillator.

The equipment is available 24/7 and is accessible for anyone to use as directed by South Western Ambulance Service following a 999 Emergency Call.

The RRMC was created in memory of Ronnie Richards who collapsed and died, aged 56, after suffering an unknown heart problem while playing five-a-side football at Penzance Leisure Centre in August 2008.

There are now FOUR Public Access Defibrillators in Penzance.  As well as the one at North Pier, the others are located at the Community Fire Station (St Clare Street, TR18 3DX), Wharfside Shopping Centre (Market Jew Street, TR18 2GB) and Queens Hotel (The Promende, TR18 4HG).  Click here to see our map that shows the location of the four defibrillators in Penzance as well as others across the UK and Europe.
